Kerl LaJeune
Director of Planning and Design,

Mr. LaJeune is an Architect with Executive Leadership in Public Sector Planning & Design, specializing in over $300Million+ annual portfolio management of new & renovated design/construction of public facilities and infrastructure across the City of Chicago, Sister Agencies, Municipal, Cook County and Federal partners. His cumulative, national project experience has a broad spectrum from Higher Education, Civic, Institutional/Commercial, Clubhouses / Arts & Recreational, Multi-Family Residential and custom housing, Master Planning, Feasibility Studies, and Corporate Interiors; many of which have won distinguished awards. He has senior level assessment with direct responsibilities for budgeting, scheduling, scope, design evaluation, planning, programming, project development and conflict resolution. Leadership, communication, technical and strategic decision making, and coordination along with QA/QC oversight over contracted architectural, engineering and specialty consultants. Mr. LaJeune provides clients with proven solutions that are tailored and economically viable to their needs. The familiarity and focus on project excellence and constructability has been the foundation of his career both professionally and academically.
Management leadership with 35+ years of design and creative experience from leading private architecture firms and public agency in Chicago within various industry sectors. Proven focus on communication, risk assessment, management of complex design problems and technical challenges, public engagement to drive strategy, and implementation to deliver projects of high- quality, sustainable that strengthen communities.
With a long academic tenure of teaching design and technology, he has taught for over 13yrs at the three major architectural institutions in Chicago as an Adjunct Assistant Professor: UIC School of Architecture, Illinois Institute of Technology and Archeworks. Over the years, Mr. LaJeune’s active involvements and volunteerism have stretched from community-based organizations to not-for-profit groups, and other affiliated activities linked to professional practice. He currently serves as a Trustee to the AIA Chicago Foundation, Board of Director at Openlands advocating for open space for land conservation, and President of the UIC Alumni Association.
